What is it?
According to Theodore Roszak, Ecopsychology recognizes that the " Needs of the planet are the needs of the person, and the rights of the person are the rights of the planet."
Healing through our natural world forms the basis of Ecopsychology.
Ecopsychology at SPLICE.
More specifically, Ecopsychology at SPLICE is a two stage process. Firstly, health and wellbeing is derived from an ecological perspective ( i.e. benefits gained by being involved with the environment and nature ). Secondly, once your wellbeing and inner harmony is attained, by connecting with this natural source , the development of an ecological conscience and action regarding the preservation of this contemporary therapy is the optimal outcome.
For instance, if you took up surfing, in order to assist your wellbeing, you could endeavour to join an action group which protected the particular part of the coast in which you enjoyed surfing. This cycle of wellbeing, including emotional healing ,experiencing a sense of community, and respect for the natural world is fully sustainable.
Outcomes of Ecopsychology for Social Change.
The benefits of Ecopsychology not only create social change which benefits our community and our environment, it also protects the most powerful sources of human healing.
Just like the connection of the planet is directly related to the connection of humankind, it is also true that the needs of the planet are directly related to the needs of humans.
Learning to connect with the environment we learn respect and humility and we also gain freedom and peace through understanding our relationship with our natural world.
